IMPROVED RANKING OF INDIA IN THE GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX 2019

In a survey of innovative capacity, India bettered its ranking in the global index by as much as five notches to the 52nd position. The WIPO conducted the survey. India performed splendidly on the innovation comparative to its GDP per capita for 9 successive years. Only three other countries (Kenya, Republic of Moldova, and Vietnam) could match this height of performance. Switzerland maintained the performance and hold top ranking. Israel entered the entry as new, whereas China was able to improve its ranking to level 17th last year.  In 2014 India was holding 81 positions but it gradually improved its innovation and reached the position 52nd. According to the business survey, India achieved the spots from 65 to 77 positions in the year 2018. According to Piyush Goyal report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the target for the Government that it will focus on the development in the innovation industry to achieve the 25th ranking with the target of 4 years. India‚Äôs position in seven pillars of GII is 4 out of seven such as knowledge and technology outputs (up 11 spots to 32nd, institutions (up 3 spots to 77th), research (up 3 spots to 53rd), creative outputs (78th), business sophistication (65th), infrastructure (79th).

According to WIPO India performed largely and improved owing to relative performance. The performance is improving the varies spectra. 24-07-2019 in New Delhi the GII Global innovation index shared the rankings of varies economies. India also jumped to five places to improve the position where Switzerland tried hard to maintain its position at first rank in GII index. GII is the leading reference on the innovation. Over the years it is an indication and showing the results of different countries’ capabilities. The developing emerging across the world is challenging. GII gives the rank on the basis of many diverse criteria.

Different knowledge companions have teamed up with the GII consisting of an amalgamation of the Indian Industry with the belief of development in innovation and economic growth, the competitiveness of nations, etc. Shri Piyush Goyal, The Union Minister of Industry, Railways Commerce, congratulated the people who were involved in the development of innovation and he also mentioned that India is targeting the 25th position in 4 years to become part of top countries of the GII index.  Further, he suggested the R&D (research and development universities, private sector, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to endow with innovative solutions so it will be easy to tackle various burning issues like depleting natural resources climate change, food wastage, pollution, water crisis, healthcare, etc.The basic needs are less and deprivation is increasing quite drastically in the country. These innovations can be utilized and from these, all the issues can be resolved and resources can be equally divided among the population. Hence the development and aim for achieving the 25thposition can work simultaneously. This will be at once beneficial for the people and the growth of the country.
